Chelsea have confirmed the departure of Ross Barkley after the player terminated his contract by mutual consent. The decision has been made official by the club on their official website.

“Ross Barkley has left Chelsea by mutual consent and becomes a free agent.

Given the kind of strength the Blues have in midfield, it was unlikely that Barkley was going to make a lot of appearances for the club. He had also not been given a squad number for the season, with Armando Broja taking the number 18 shirt he wore last season.

Ross Barkley joined Chelsea from Everton in January 2018 from Everton. He played 100 games for the Londoners, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists. During his time contracted to them, he also spent a spell on loan at Aston Villa.

But now, things have officially ended between him and the West London side. So, with the departure of Dele Alli to Turkey, a return to his boyhood club, Everton could be on the cards. Given that he is available on a free transfer, it could be a wise signing for the club. Frank Lampard knows the player from their time together at Stamford Bridge, and a reunion might be on the cards.
