Netflix April 2026 is shaping up to be a great month for comedy fans — and *Roommates* might just be the most relatable film on the lineup. If you’ve ever survived a college dorm situation, this one’s practically made for you.

## What Is *Roommates* About?

Produced by [Happy Madison Productions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Madison_Productions) — Adam Sandler’s iconic comedy label — *Roommates* is a Netflix Original film directed by Chandler Levack (*Mile End Kicks*). The story follows Devon, a hopeful college freshman who asks the seemingly cool and confident Celeste to be her roommate. What starts as an exciting new friendship quickly spirals into a passive-aggressive war neither of them saw coming.

It’s funny, it’s cringe, and honestly? It’s painfully real.

## Star-Studded Cast You’ll Love

Leading the film is **Sadie Sandler** (Devon) — who was literally finishing her freshman year at NYU during pre-production, making her casting feel almost too perfect. Opposite her is **Chloe East** (*The Fabelmans*, *Heretic*) as the enigmatic Celeste.

The supporting lineup is stacked:

- **Natasha Lyonne** (*Russian Doll*) as Hannah
- **Storm Reid** (*Euphoria*, *The Last of Us*) as Luna
- **Nick Kroll** (*Big Mouth*) as Brian
- **Sarah Sherman** (*SNL*) as Dr. Schilling
- Plus **Janeane Garofalo**, **Carol Kane**, and **Bailee Madison**

## Why This Film Stands Out

The writers behind SNL’s viral “Domingo” sketch — Jimmy Fowlie and Ceara Jane O’Sullivan — penned the script, so expect sharp, witty humour with genuine emotional depth. Director Levack has called the film an “honest investigation” of that chaotic, identity-shaping first year of college.

Also worth noting: the production reportedly used Charli XCX’s *“girl, so confusing”* as a creative touchstone for the film’s exploration of intense female friendships. That alone tells you the tone they’re going for.
