Cristiano Ronaldo scored an early header in the 4th minute. Portugal won over Morocco by virtue of his one goal. It was his 85th goal for his country – breaking the European record. Ronaldo now becomes the highest goalscorer from Europe in internationals.

Prior to this World Cup, Hungarian forward Ferenc Puskas held the record for the most senior international goals for a European nation with 84 goals between 1945 and 1956.

After his hat-trick heroics against Spain, Ronaldo equalled Puskas record. And it took him just another 4 minutes against Morocco to break the record.

Cristiano is now 2nd in the list of top international goalscorer. Former Bayern Munich forward, Ali Daei scored 109 goals for Iran in a 13-year international career between 1993 and 2006. He will look to close the gap further when Portugal face Iran on Monday.

Ronaldo has also become the first Portugal player since Jose Torres in 1966 to score a goal with his right foot, left foot and head in a single World Cup tournament. He had previously struggled at the World Cup. But the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has flown out of the blocks in the 2018 edition so far. He currently leads the way in the race for the 2018 World Cup Golden Boot, with four strikes to his name.
