Ronald Araujo to extend contract with Barcelona amidst Bayern Munich interest

Barcelona are set to award Ronald Araujo with a new contract to extend his stay at the club soon. Bayern Munich were recently linked with the Uruguayan, on the back of some remarkable performances from the player and the lack of central defenders in their squad.

However, Barcelona have no intention to start negotiations with the German side and the player is very happy with how things are right now. As a result, a transfer at this stage would have to come as a result of an inability to reach an agreement over a new deal between the player and his current side.

The youngster was one of the main pillars of the club’s title-winning defence last season, conceding the fewest goals in Europe’s top five leagues. He has also proven his worth in big games like El Clasico, emerging as an unbreakable barrier for wingers like Vinicius Jr, even when moved out to right-back.

Although Thomas Tuchel is very fond of the Barca defender, he will have to look elsewhere to solve the centre-back dilemma. Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea was linked with them all summer, but yet another injury to the player rules him out as a potential option for the Bavarians.

Ronald Araujo, on the other hand, seems certain to be a mainstay in the Barcelona squad with his commitment to the badge unwavering since day one.
