Inter Milan and Chelsea have reached total agreement for the signing of Romelu Lukaku. The transfer has been given the here we go signal by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, which means that the deal is as good as done. We can expect an announcement from both clubs in the days to come.
The Belgian has agreed to a deal worth €12 million per season, and will be the most expensive player to ever be signed by Chelsea at €115 million. Several players were rumoured to be included in negotiations for the striker, with Marcos Alonso, Davide Zappacosta and Emerson being some of the names mentioned. However, the final deal will involve no players going to San Siro from Chelsea as part of the transfer.
Lukaku only made a handful of appearances for Chelsea during his spell at the club seven years ago. He went on to feature for West Brom, Everton and Manchester United before making the switch to Inter Milan. In both his seasons in Italy, he has scored 20+ goals and lifted the Serie A title with Inter in 20/21. The Belgian always said that he has unfinished business at Chelsea, and seven years after leaving, he is coming back to the Bridge.
The Blues finally have their striker, and given Lukaku’s sensational form in front of goal, it is likely that he will be deployed alongside Werner. The German worked very well with Yussuf Poulsen at Leipzig, and could work wonders with an orthodox 9 like Lukaku as well.
Chelsea’s main problem has been their lack of clinical finishing, and Lukaku is the perfect cure for that problem. However, he leaves a club where he is loved and appreciated. And considering the fact that he didn’t do as well in the Premier League with Manchester United, Thomas Tuchel will have to bring out the best in the striker to make sure that he replicates his form.
