According to the Sun, Roman Abramovich is asking his celebrity friends for loans as he is currently sanctioned and has had his assets frozen. The Russian oligarch is currently trying to sell Chelsea, but will not be benefited by the sale of the club as per the sanctions placed by the UK government.
The Rothschild family and Rush Hour director Brett Ratner are among the people reportedly contacted. However, none of them have agreed to giving out loans to him just yet.
Roman Abramovich in financial crisis with assets frozen
The Chelsea owner has weekly costs of €600,000 which go out to his staff. But since he can no longer access his funds, the loans are becoming the primary way out.
Roman Abramovich has denied any links with Russian president Vladimir Putin during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. However, he was recently a part of peace talks held between the two countries. As a result, the validity of those claims has come under question.
There were also reports that Abramovich had been poisoned for his involvement in the peace talks since they were against the interests of the state. But the Kremlin has denied any such allegations.
Recent reports also suggest that Roman Abramovich has acquired Goztepe FC in Turkey, with the announcement expected soon. As a result, the likelihood that he is going through a dire financial situation is becoming lower, if he has actually purchased Goztepe.
