Romain Grosjean ‘sort of okay’ after a horrific car crash at Bahrain Grand Prix

The Bahrain GP race was red-flagged after Romain Grosjean’s Haas collided with Daniil Kyvat’s Alpha Tauri and went straight into the barricade. The car eventually split into two and caught fire.

The supposed cause for the accident was spillage from the fuel tank which caused the entire residue to flare up. Romain miraculously managed to pull himself out of the ruins of his drive and jump over the barricade to get away from the fire.

He was then helped away from the wreckage by the F1 medical team who arrived on the spot very quickly to deal with the horrific situation.

The incident happened, in turn, three of the very first lap, and all the remaining drivers were sent back to their pits.

Romain Grosjean was transported to a local medical facility and spent the night there. The reports following the car crash were that the Frenchman was completely in shock and suffered burns on the back of his hands and ankles.

According to Andrew Benson on Twitter, the halo of the car was crucial in making sure that the driver got out of the burning vehicle unscathed. The Haas vehicle split in two right behind the cockpit, and the front of the car separated the barrier longitudinally.

The driver’s team has since posted an update on social media, a video clip showing Grosjean in a hospital bed with both of his hands heavily bandaged. The driver was smiling as he said he was ‘sort of okay’, and hoped to recover soon from the incident and tell the story.

He also talked about how he was not in favour of the halo a couple of years ago, and how it ultimately ended up saving his life. Spectators and fans all across the world are hoping for a speedy recovery for the French racer, as voiced by many on social media.
