Roma have won the first ever UEFA Conference League by defeating Feyenoord 1-0 in the finals of the tournament. With the win, Jose Mourinho has become the first manager to win all three UEFA trophies.
The last time an Italian team won a European trophy was Inter Milan lifting the Champions League in 2010. And more than a decade later, the Special One has proved that he can still deliver when the stakes are high in a European final. Mourinho is the first manager to lead Roma to a UEFA trophy in their history.
Roma win UEFA Conference League against Feyenoord
Nicolo Zaniolo scored the only goal of the game following a moment of brilliance. Gianluca Mancini picked out the forward on the left side, which left defenders confused. He controlled the ball very well and showed lightning-quick reflexes to tap the ball past the goalkeeper.
That proved to be the only moment of quality in the final. The other remarkable performance came from Chris Smalling, who snuffed out almost every Feyenoord attack. The former Manchester United centre-back has been able to establish himself as a key player for Roma, and has successfully revived his career.
Feyenoord will be disappointed with their narrow loss, especially since they had a chance to pick up another trophy alongside the KNVB Cup. But, their progression to the finals showed that they have a squad capable of competing in the Conference League.
