During the 22nd over of the second innings of the fifth paytm odi trophy, Rohit went past the 8000-run mark in ODI cricket.
The Hitman was 46 runs away from the milestone before the start of this match.
Rohit is also the joint-third fastest batsman, alongside Sourav Ganguly, to reach 8000 ODI runs.
Indian opener Rohit Sharma has completed 8000 runs in ODIs for India during his team’s chase of Australia’s 272/9 in the decider match. Rohit achieved the feat during the fifth and final ODI against Australia at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi.
With his 46th run in the 23rd over of the innings, Rohit reached the milestone. Rohit Sharma became the third-fastest to reach the milestone, in terms of matches played (206).
He become the ninth Indian cricket team player to reach 8000 runs after M.S. Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin.
The right-hander gathered a single off spinner Nathan Lyon to complete his 8000th odi run in ODIs. Rohit scored 56 of 89 balls before being stumped off Adam Zampa’s delivery. He has now 8010 runs in 206 ODIs with 22 centuries and 41 half-centuries.
Indian captain Virat Kohli leads the list as he needed just 183 outings to 8k ODI runs followed by Proteas legend AB de Villiers who got there in 190 matches.Â
Former captain Sourav Ganguly is tied with Sharma in terms of innings (200) but the Hitman edged out the Kolkata Prince by two matches on the list.
Rohit has also surpassed legends like MS Dhoni who took 214 innings and Sachin Tendulkar who took 210 innings to reach the milestone.
