Atletico Madrid have fully agreed on the signing of Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul this summer. The Rojiblancos are expected to pay the Italian club a sum worth €35 million in total, and this includes all kinds of bonuses involved.
The Argentinian has reached a total agreement with Atleti regarding personal terms and will sign a five-year deal with them until 2026. He is currently out on international duty with the Argentina national team at the Copa America and will sign the contract after his commitment to the national team is complete.
De Paul was one of Serie A’s best midfielders this past season. He scored 9 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 games in the league, and is a very versatile player. He can play in a defensive role, an attacking role, as a central midfielder or even out wide on the wings.
The 27-year-old is expected to be the direct replacement for Saul Niguez, who is attracting interest from various clubs. Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Manchester United are willing to sign the player, and only the Blues have made a bid for the midfielder.
Saul missed out on the Spain squad for Euro 2020, and fell out of favour in the season gone by. The emergence of Marcos Llorente as an unbelievable option for Diego Simeone has also not done his playing time any favours. So, this switch could benefit all parties involved.
