Robin Olsen is in advanced negotiations to join Aston Villa from his loan spell at Championship club Sheffield United. An agreement is reportedly in place, and only the final details need to be resolved before the transfer is given the green light.
The player is contracted to Serie A club Roma, and has spent the last two seasons on loan at Cagliari and Everton before joining Sheffield United this year. He has made 11 appearances for them this season, and has only kept one clean sheet.
The Blades are going to terminate his loan spell imminently, so that he can join Villa.
Robin Olsen to join Aston Villa soon
The Swedish keeper has agreed personal terms with the Midlands club, and it seems only a matter of time before the deal is made official.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Robin Olsen will be joining Steven Gerrard’s squad on loan until the end of the season. He has a contract with Roma until June 2023, and he might be sold in the summer if there is no chance for a renewal.
Olsen is Sweden’s number 1, and would be the backup option to Emiliano Martinez at Villa Park. The Argentinian is one of the best in the Premier League, and it is very unlikely that Gerrard would bench him ahead of his new recruit.
Villa have already enjoyed a very impressive winter transfer window, with the addition of Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho. The arrival of Robin Olsen will further strengthen their squad to try and achieve a high finish this campaign.
