## What Is Robin Hood About?

MGM+’s [Robin Hood](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Hood_(2025_TV_series)) is a fresh, grounded retelling of the legendary outlaw story set in the aftermath of the **Norman Conquest of England** in the Middle Ages. Rather than a light-hearted swashbuckler, this version leans hard into authentic period drama — gritty, political, and emotionally driven.

**Jack Patten** plays Rob, a young Saxon forester’s son who becomes the leader of a band of rebel outlaws fighting against oppression. **Lauren McQueen** plays Marian, the daughter of a Norman earl, who infiltrates the corrupt Norman courts from within. Together, they form an unlikely alliance to fight royal corruption and bring peace to England — while being relentlessly hunted by the Sheriff of Nottingham, played with commanding menace by the legendary **Sean Bean**. **Connie Nielsen** rounds out the cast as the formidable Eleanor of Aquitaine, adding further political intrigue to the series.

The Sheriff isn’t just a villain here — he’s depicted as a brilliant military strategist, a devoted father, and a cousin to King Henry II, making him one of the more fully realized antagonists in recent period drama television.

## Why Was It Renewed? The Numbers Speak

The renewal isn’t a surprise — it’s earned. MGM+ head Michael Wright confirmed that *Robin Hood* became one of the platform’s **top-performing original series of all time**, with strong audience engagement both domestically and internationally. Lionsgate Television confirmed it delivered one of the most-watched debut seasons in MGM+ history.

Critically, Season 1 landed at **77% on Rotten Tomatoes**, with reviewers praising its polished production and Sean Bean’s heavyweight presence. Metacritic scored it **67/100**, indicating generally favorable reception.

## What to Expect From Season 2

Production will take place at **PFI Studios in Serbia** — a world-class facility increasingly popular for high-budget international productions. The main cast is expected to return in full, and given how Season 1 concluded — with Robin and Marian’s rebellion gaining momentum — Season 2 should raise the stakes considerably in terms of both political intrigue and open conflict.

The creators have already teased major escalation for the next chapter. With the same 10-episode format and a stronger creative foundation to build on, Season 2 could genuinely cement *Robin Hood* as one of MGM+’s flagship series.
