Roberto De Zerbi is close to becoming the new manager of Marseille, after leaving Brighton by mutual consent at the end of the 23/24 season. The two parties are close to finalising all the details of the contract, and a full agreement is expected within the coming week.
The Italian’s previous release clause was worth €15 million, which dropped to €6 million after his exit. And as things stand, Marseille are prepared to pay the release clause amount and bring in De Zerbi for the new season.

Chelsea, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Manchester United were all linked with the former Sassuolo manager this summer. However, they have all chosen different options, leaving the Italian out of a job until now.
Considering the quality Roberto De Zerbi was able to bring out of Brighton during his one and a half seasons in charge, it’ll be very interesting to see if he can replicate the same with Marseille.
After finishing eighth in the table this past year, Marseille are eager to turn things around and return to European football as soon as possible. And towards that end, bringing a prolific new manager like De Zerbi could be the missing piece that they have needed all along.
