After earning the European Golden Shoe for the 2020-21 season, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski said, “I don’t have to show myself in another league.” Lewandowski, who began his career at Borussia Dortmund before joining Bayern Munich in 2014, is largely regarded as one of the best strikers of his time.

At Allianz Arena, the Poland international has elevated his game even further, with the 2020-21 season proving to be his best yet in terms of total impact in the final third.

Despite missing a month of activity due to injury, Lewandowski scored 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga games for Bayern last season. In the process, the 33-year-old broke Gerd Muller’s record for most goals scored in a single German top-flight season, as well as winning the European Golden Shoe for the first time, finishing 11 goals ahead of ex-Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

On Tuesday, Lewandowski was eventually given the honor, and he used the occasion to reaffirm his devotion to Bayern following a summer of heavy transfer speculation. At one point, the striker was heavily connected with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea being suggested as his most likely destination amid concerns that stepping outside of his comfort zone in the Bundesliga would assist him.

Bayern Munich is rumored to be interested in signing Borussia Dortmund’s ErlingHaaland as a long-term replacement for Lewandowski, but he insists that he still has many years ahead of him at the highest level of the game. Bayern Munich will face Furth in their next Bundesliga match on Friday, and Lewandowski will be back in action.
