Robert Lewandowski wants to move to Barcelona only this summer. The Polish number 9 has publicly announced that his time at Bayern Munich is over, and that he wants to leave the club during the coming transfer window.
He has one year remaining on his current deal, and only wants to join Barcelona. But, their financial problems are making it difficult for them to go ahead and get their man even though he is waiting for them to come and get him.
Robert Lewandowski to wait for Barcelona move
With Luuk de Jong, Memphis Depay and Martin Braithwaite expected to leave the club this summer, Barcelona need a prominent face to lead their attack. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is already there at the club, but the presence of Robert Lewandowski would massively boost their goalscoring record.
“Currently the norm is one to three for financial fair play,” Barcelona’s economic VP, Eduard Romeu said.
“If we are able to get three times more than the cost of the transfer plus amortisation, he can be signed, but first we have to do the job of closing levers.
“If we don’t do it, as we are at the moment, by regulation it is not possible to sign him.”
However, the challenge for them is to offload enough players to make room for the Bayern Munich sensation. Other clubs, such as Chelsea, have also been put on notice by the situation of the striker. In case Barcelona fail to sort themselves out, they could emerge as a surprise destination for him too.
