Robert Lewandowski’s situation could be one to watch during the summer transfer window. The Polish striker is out of a contract with Bayern Munich in 2023, and could ask to leave if it isn’t renewed.
The situation as of right now is completely open, since Bayern Munich have not opened talks with the player or his agent about a renewal yet.
Robert Lewandowski could leave Bayern Munich in the summer
Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi confirmed the contract situation: “I can confirm there hasn’t been any contact with FC Bayern yet”, he told Kicker.
Bayern Munich are not rushing to renew the contracts of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller or Manuel Neuer just yet. They are aiming to be patient with the renewals, and would want to reach an agreement for an extension.
But, Robert Lewandowski is not happy about the current situation despite being focused on matters at hand with the German giants. So, if there is no agreement by the time the summer transfer window opens, he could ask to leave the club.
The ball is now in Bayern Munich’s court, since they need to open talks with Zahavi and strike a deal with him to extend the forward’s stay.
This season, the 33-year-old has scored 29 goals in 26 Bundesliga games. In the Champions League, he has netted 12 in 8 appearances. As a result, he is on course for breaking his own record set in the Bundesliga last season, and could reach new heights in European competition as well.
