Robert Lewandowski has a chance of leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season, if his contract isn’t renewed. The Polish striker’s deal expires in 2023, and he is yet to begin extension talks with the board.
The player isn’t happy with the current situation, and could choose to leave in the summer as a result. If Bayern Munich don’t sell him in the off-season, they would lose him for free in 2023 despite being able to keep him for another year.
Robert Lewandowski to Barca?
According to SportItalia, Barcelona have an agreement in principle to sign the 33-year-old in the summer. However, they do not have an agreement with Bayern Munich yet. And, if the club wants to sign the striker this year, they will have to come to a mutual agreement about the transfer fee involved.
Robert Lewandowski has also been linked with Real Madrid in the summer, but there are rumours that the progress under Xavi has made the forward lean towards Catalonia more.
Barcelona have a wealth of attacking options at their disposal, with Aubameyang in top form, Memphis Depay and Luuk De Jong to back him up alongside Ferran Torres.
So, a move for the Poland international isn’t necessary for Barcelona, but Real Madrid could use his services to help balance Benzema’s fitness issues if they fail to land Erling Haaland in the summer.
However, Bayern Munich have not given up on hopes of keeping their star player just yet. And there is still a lot of time for a contract renewal.
