The PlayStation State of Play for June 2022 got off with a bang, confirming that Resident Evil 4 will be remade for PS5 on March 24, 2023. While the stream is centered on the PS5, the game will also be available for Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The presentation was quickly followed by additional Resident Evil news, with the announcement of Resident Evil Village for PSVR2.

The announcement of the Resident Evil 4 remake was accompanied by a trailer for the game, which showed how the 2004 action horror game has been improved visually. Unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of information on how it was changed mechanically.

In a PlayStation Blog, Capcom promotion producer Edvin Edsö said, “[Resident Evil 4 Remake] is being developed to achieve state-of-the-art quality for a survival horror suitable for 2023, while preserving the essence of the original game. We aim to make the game feel familiar to fans of the series, while also providing a fresh feeling to it. This is being done by reimagining the storyline of the game while keeping the essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics, and updating the controls to a modern standard.”

The blog article goes on to discuss the setup for the RE4 Remake, which follows all of the same beats as the original RE4, making it unclear what aspects of the game are different in this remake. The trailer does give off a spooky vibe, so RE4 Remake may be a survival horror remake of the more action-packed RE4. However, we’ll have to wait and see if that’s the case.
