We used to run around carrying smartphones that had only 1GB of data per month for us to use. Do you still remember that we used to curse 3G for being so fast that it used to end our data pack too soon? Do you still shiver at the thought that you used to run around searching for free wifi so that you could surf Facebook?

Well, we all have been there. But that all changed with the advent of Jio. The Mukesh Ambani lead telecom changed how we use the internet and brought forth drastic changes in everyone’s lives.

We now have a minimum of 1GB data in our devices for our daily use, and it’s not even enough for us anymore. I personally empty my 2GB data per day slot and still use wifi when the daily data limit gets empty. We have become one of the largest countries in terms of average data usage per month.

Reliance Jio crosses 40 crore subscribers in India

The latest news shouldn’t come as a surprise for any of us. Reliance JIO has become the first mobile service provider that has crossed India’s 40 crore customer mark. The telecom has over 35 lakh new subscriber addition in July alone. The telecom regulator TRAI directly released the report data on Monday.

In June, the company was reported to have total telecom subscribers of 116 crores, but that changed in the next month. As of July, the telecom giant now has 116.4 crores of total subscribers.

The report also claimed that the telecom companies BSNL and MTNL and Reliance Communications, and Tata Teleservices are continuing to decline in terms of the fixed-line consumer segment.

Reliance Jio, however, is in the dominant lead with an Indian mobile market share of 35.03 percent at 40,08,03,819 subscribers.

Coming after Jio is Bharti Airtel and, surprisingly, even BSNL. They both added 32.6 lakh and 3.88 lakh new customers, respectively, in July. The telecom giant Vodafone-Idea or simply Vi lost over 37 lakh customers. MTNL also lost over 5,457 of its mobile service customers.

The final note by TRAI stated that Reliance Jio now had 40.19 crore broadband customers and Bharti airtel has 15.57 crore subscribers. The Mukesh Ambani lead telecom is booming in business while crushing its competitors one by one.
