More than 14 years after its original release on consoles, Rockstar Games announced the open-world western Red Dead Redemption will be available for PC users. In 2010, the game was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with the Undead Nightmare standalone expansion launching later that same year.
Red Dead Redemption Coming to PC
While newer Xbox consoles allowed the game to be played, Red Dead Redemption was for years a PS3 and Xbox 360 exclusive. First released in 2023 on Switch and PS4 after what seemed like an interminable wait for PC players itching to continue the Red Dead Redemption 2 journey. So while most people wanted a remaster or even a full-on remake, Rockstar threw out their original for a quick port. The news is all the more welcome given how long fans have waited for any hint of a PC release from Rockstar.
Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare coming to PC on October 29. Developed in partnership with Double Eleven, features 4K at up to 144FPS with ultrawide and super ultrawide monitor support, along with HDR10 support, keyboard, and mouse input compatibility, NVIDIA DLSS 3.7 & AMD FSR 3.0 upscaling technology options as well as range of adjustable draw distances and shadow quality settings. That should make fans happy, but they will still have to wait until October 29 before seeing the port itself.
Red Dead Redemption is actually a prequel to Red Dead Redemption 2, of course, which came to PC a little over a year after its initial console release. The story follows John Marston as he tracks down the remaining members of the Van der Linde gang, featuring the signature mix of comedy, action, and emotional moments typical of Rockstar Games. PC gamers can save the date for October 29 and also look forward to the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which may also take time to arrive on PC.
