Realme will now provide 2 year of maintenance updates to smartphones in China

Software update dates for Android devices have become an increasingly essential purchasing factor for many, across manufacturers. The Android software update situation is still not as good as it is on the Apple side of things. Today, Realme has announced a change in plans for its software update policy, confirming that all new smartphones will now receive only two years of updates, in China. This is soon after when the company revealed its plans for Realme UI 3.0, its Android 12 based custom skin.

According to the announcement, the company will now only provide two years of maintenance upgrades in China for its devices, implying a two-year update cycle. Moving on, six-month-old smartphones from the Chinese manufacturer will receive monthly upgrades, while phones that are older than six months will be receiving bi-monthly updates.

Smartphones launched within the last six months will be updated once a month with, new features and optimizations. Phones that arrived more than six months back will receive updates bi-monthly, with the update featuring upgraded system security and stability. And also all smartphone models will have a maximum maintenance period of two years.

The company also adds that the software updates for the six-month-old handsets will mainly be focused on optimizations. Firmware updates for phones older than six months, on the other hand, will only include security patches and fixes, if any are available at the moment. Finally, changes to the Realme UI will vary per device and the brand will be notifying users about any such update and its eligibility.

That said, going by this statement, Realme is only most likely to only provide two Android updates in its native market. This news is only for china, their is no information about when realme is going to provide this facility in India and other parts of the world. After coming the news of Xiaomi that it can also provide three year of android updates it is likely to expect that realme can also do the same in India and International market after China.
