Realme Ultra Showcased at MWC 2025 With Interchangeable Leica M-Mount Lenses and 1-Inch Sensor

Realme Ultra has a Leica M mount for modular camera. Realme demonstrated its capabilities with a specialized 73mm portrait lens (roughly 3x zoom) and a 234mm telephoto lens (that would be around 10x zoom). The device features three lenses including the main camera, an ultrawide camera, and a rectangular 1-inch type direct light CMOS sensor included for the interchangeable lens part of the system.

By leveraging HyperImage+ image algorithms and DSLR-grade optics, Realme claims its interchangeable lenses redefine mobile imagery. Maintaining DSLR-like resolution and depth of field, this system offers increased zoom versatility. Also, a glass cover protects the 1-inch sensor, which helps to keep dust from accumulating sans lens cap.

Although Realme’s Ultra phone introduces a fresh take on mobile photography, the idea of removable lenses is not so new. A similar arrangement was present in Xiaomi’s 12S Ultra Concept edition, and brands such as Sony and Moment have tested the waters for removable lenses. Realme, however, wants to take mobile imaging further by powering the camera with advanced image processing and hardware.

Powering the Realme Ultra is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship processor for 2023. The device still remains a concept and has not even gone into mass production despite featuring high-end specifications. If a model does come to fruition for testing, it will be interesting to see whether the photo quality, usability and overall ergonomic design of the toy deliver. As such, the Realme Ultra is an ambitious concept device that provides a taste of a potential future for mobile photography with their interchangeable lenses and advanced imaging technology.
