RealityOS: Trademark Filing Hints | A possible announcement at WWDC

According to the news, we’ve heard hints of a realityOS platform that will reportedly offer the software foundations for the expected Apple AR/VR headset amidst the expanding list of leaks – and now trademark registrations for that same moniker are showing up.

There are now two US trademarks for the “realityOS” brand, held by a business called Realityo Systems LLC, according to Parker Ortolani, a consumer product manager at the Verge, Polygon, and the Vox Media Podcast network. That corporation has only these two trademarks, and there is no data about them on the internet.

The submissions are from December 2021 and address “design and development of computer hardware, software, peripherals, and computer and video games” – with “wearable computer hardware” specifically mentioned.

It cannot be a coincidence that the “realityOS” trademark owned by a company that seemingly doesn’t exist and is specifically for “wearable computer hardware” is being filed around the world on June 8, 2022 https://t.co/myoRbOvgJa + https://t.co/AH97r95EMn pic.twitter.com/uvsiZCj2rR

Approval by the Board

As per the sources, if we recall the references to realityOS which has already appeared in Apple’s software, and the deadline for an international trademark submission is June 8, 2022, just two days after Apple CEO Tim Cook’s major keynote at the WWDC 2022 event.

Additionally, Apple has a history of trying to transfer trademarks from shell companies just a few days after presentation announcements, and the fact that the filings are for an unproduced item from the US Patent and Trademark Office, and now we have some really strong indications that Apple’s AR/VR device could be on the way.

Only a few days ago, we learned that the headset and accompanying realityOS software had been presented to Apple’s board of directors, increasing the likelihood of a June debut. Hardware announcements at WWDC are uncommon, though not entirely unknown.

About the RealityOS

For years, rumors have swirled about an Apple headset that mixes virtual reality (contained digital worlds) with augmented reality also known as mixed reality. Apple CEO Tim Cook gushing about the possibilities of augmented reality in 2018 was one of the first big signals we got.

As per the sources, we believe that the mixed reality headgear will be released alongside a lighter pair of Apple Glasses that are primarily focused on augmented reality. In December of last year, Apple made key recruitment in the field of augmented reality public relations, adding to the proof that these two gadgets exist.

Secondly, If the AR/VR headset is the first product to be released, it will almost certainly be expensive: potentially more than $2,000 (about £1,585 / AU$2,795). High-end specifications have been mentioned, including 4K micro-OLED displays and powerful Apple-made processors, as well as eye-tracking features.

Lastly, at this point, it would be a huge surprise if Apple didn’t have a mixed reality headset in the works. There have been stories of delays until 2023, but given the fresh trademark information we’ve received, we’d advise bracing yourself for a huge announcement at WWDC 2022 in June.
