It was the rescheduled 2020 final at the Estadio de La Cartuja between the two sides. Both teams have tried their best from the very first minute of the game. It was Mikel Oyarzabal for Real Sociedad who broke the deadlock at 63rd minute from the spot. It was the only difference between the side after 90 minutes.
After the match, Mikel Oyarzabal said, “It’s a beautiful day on which so many things come to your mind. Giving this victory to our fans was the best thing we could do.”
“There are many people who would like to have been here and there are many friends and family who left us in the worst possible way. This is for everyone, we felt their presence. There’s nothing like this feeling.”
Athletic Bilbao’s Oscar de Marcos described the loss as a massive blow. He said, “It’s very tough for us, this was a match we were so excited about and thought we could win.”
“It’s very painful whenever you lose a final, regardless of who you lose to. It’s a very sad day for us.”
However, David Silva, who joined Real Sociedad last summer from Manchester City, had made a record with this win as well. He won the FA Cup with Manchester City in his first season which was the club’s first trophy in 35 years. This time he is part of Real Sociedad’s first major trophy in 34 years.
