Real Madrid has been renovating their stadium Santiago Bernabeu since 2020 as the Coronavirus pandemic stopped all type of gatherings, and the football matches are being played without fans. Los Blancos have been playing their home matches at their Alfredo di Stefano stadium – which is usually reserved for their Castilla side.
The new Bernabeu stadium will be one of the most iconic stadiums in the world, with a retractable pitch and roofs along with many other new features. Real Madrid has been released a new 4-minute video showcasing the works done at the Bernabeu till now.
According to the latest reports, Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium has caught fire on Wednesday night as it is undergoing a major renovation.
Renovation work was temporarily paused after plumes of thick black smoke were seen pumping out of the stadium, with firefighters being called to the scene immediately.
According to Marca, a “small fire” broke out in the stadium, but the cause isn’t known yet. “The fire at the Santiago Bernabéu construction site, seen from a nearby building: the smoke column is visible from various areas of Madrid”.
The fire at the Santiago Bernabeu could have damaged the £500million redevelopment. However, the extent of the damage is yet to be known.
