Real Madrid win Copa del Rey for the 20th time by defeating Girona 2-1

Real Madrid have won the 2023 Copa del Rey by defeating Girona 2-1 in the finals. The Spanish giants have lifted the trophy for the 20th time in their history, thanks to a brace from Rodrygo.

The Brazilian found the back of the net within two minutes to dent any hopes of an upset victory from the opposition. They were eventually able to equalise courtesy of Lucas Torro, the former Real Madrid man, who launched a volley from outside the box to find the back of the net.

Rodrygo scored again in the 70th minute to give his side the lead again. And later on, Madrid managed the ball very well to take their lead to full-time and eventually win the trophy.

The young winger has really turned up in Madrid’s last few games, scoring 16 goals and providing 11 assists in 51 games across all competitions.

Although their fortune hasn’t been favourable in the league, Madrid aren’t going trophyless this season. They have already won the domestic cup and are still in the semifinals of the Champions League, and have the chance to win a double again.

However, it will not be easy by any means since they are going up against a Manchester City side that knows nothing other than winning right now.
