Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Kylian Mbappe‘s situation at PSG. The Spanish giants are reportedly open to signing him if he decides to leave during the summer transfer window.
One of the reasons that Mbappe is unhappy at PSG is because he is being forced to play as a centre-forward. As shown with France, he prefers to play out on the left but given the lack of recruitment of a suitable striker, Christophe Galtier has no other choice but to use him as the central striker in his system.
Kylian Mbappe could yet join Real Madrid down the line
In the summer of 2022, Mbappe was extremely close to joining Real Madrid as a free agent as his contract with PSG was set to expire. But, he decided to perform a U-turn and ended up renewing with the French club for two more years. There is also the option of another year, but it can only be triggered by Kylian Mbappe himself if he wants to stay.
The 24-year-old won the Golden Boot at the 2022 World Cup, and scored a hat-trick in the finals as France finished runners-up behind Argentina. Madrid have kept in contact with him since that time and would be ready in case he wishes to move on from the Parc de Princes.
However, they are wary of the situation given that they have been denied before. A move in the summer could be very expensive for Real Madrid, who could be priced out of it. But, they will have the opportunity to sign him as a free agent again in 2024, should Mbappe let his deal run down.
For the time being, though, Vinicius Jr is the long-term prospect to man the left wing for Los Blancos. And given how well he is performing, it is difficult to see them moving for Mbappe to saturate the squad.
