In a remarkable set of reports coming from Spain, Eden Hazard is looking for a way out of Real Madrid. The Belgian is aware that he has not managed to hit the heights he did at Chelsea, and is preferring a return to Stamford Bridge. The news was first broken by El Chiringuito journalist Edu Aguirre.
Hazard has a contract with Madrid till 2024, and is one of the highest earners at the club. Owing to the financial strain caused on the club, Florentino Perez is open to selling the player to make room for better prospects.
PSG star Kylian Mbappe is one of the names linked with a transfer this summer, and selling Hazard would be a great way to accumulate funds for that big money transfer. Moreover, the arrival of the Frenchman would possibly rule out Hazard’s chances of being a starter as well.
Real Madrid will be listening to offers for Luka Jovic and Gareth Bale alongside many other fringe players that include the underperforming Hazard. However, it is extremely unlikely that any club, even Chelsea, will pay anything close to the fee they sold him for.
The 30-year-old is the most expensive acquisition in Madrid history, with add-ons pushing the fee up to €160 million. His dream move to the Bernabeu has not worked out at all, and the player has more injuries than goals to show for his time at the Spanish capital.
Also, given that his current market value is half of what it was before, at €40 million, Madrid will have to let go of the winger at a cut-price deal to make any money and minimise their losses.
