David Alaba is one of the most talked-about players right now considering that he is allowed to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs that desire his services. The Bayern Munich man has less than 6 months remaining on his contract now and is in talks with various other clubs.
Reports coming out of Spain suggest that Real Madrid are pulling out of the race to sign Alaba with no transfer fee, along with Barcelona, owing to the player’s financial demands. However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano presents a completely different picture.
Los Blancos are indeed, still the frontrunners to land the Austrian, with the player preferring Madrid since it was always his dream to put on the famous white jersey.
Romano states that talks with his agent are progressing and that there is a good chance that Madrid will be able to sign him as a free agent. However, nothing substantial has been achieved in the negotiations as of yet. Nothing has been signed regarding the transfer either.
The player has demanded a salary worth €10 million after taxes, which roughly amounts to Madrid paying out €20 million to Alaba for his services. This would make him the highest earner at the club alongside Karim Benzema, who is Madrid’s most prized asset at this point in time.
Recent reports indicate that Alaba will have to lower his asking salary if he wants to realise his dream of playing for Real Madrid. However, the current financial situation could pose a real challenge in reaching an agreement between the two parties since the financial angle was the main reason why Alaba refused to negotiate a new deal with current club Bayern Munich.
