Real Madrid have been inactive in the transfer window for the last three spells, and have not recruited any players apart from David Alaba, who joined the club as a free agent.

The imminent sale of Martin Odegaard to Arsenal is expected to raise about €40 million for the Spanish giants. As a result, they take their overall sales tally for the past few seasons close to €200 million. Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Reguilon and Raphael Varane have already left the club for a little more than the amount Arsenal are paying for Odegaard.

As a result, Madrid now have the funds they need to pursue Kylian Mbappe this summer and they have done so through smart player sales only. The game in itself is going through a difficult period, with financial losses being reported in millions. But despite being in a global pandemic, Florentino Perez has achieved the target he set.

Mbappe is not negotiating a new deal with PSG, and only has one year left on his contract with them. So, if he is not sold this summer, he could walk out of the club for no transfer fee in 2022. Nasser Al-Khelaifi is motivated to keep the attacker at the club, and has insisted that Mbappe is happy at Paris and is going nowhere.

If Al-Khelaifi does not sell Mbappe this summer, then Real Madrid could have a decent transfer amount stored for Erling Haaland next summer. Dortmund are listening to any offers this summer, and will only do business for him next year when his €75 million release clause becomes valid.
