It’s been almost ten months since Real Madrid played their last match Santiago Bernabeu stadium due to a major reconstruction project at the stadium.
In a report, it has been outlined how the club has taken the decision to ease the pressure on the reconstruction process with the decision of delaying their return to Bernabeu until the 2021/22 season and will continue to play home games at the Alfredo di Stefano stadium, which is the home to their Castilla team.
The situation of Covid-19 in Spain has not improved yet and due to which no supporters are allowed to return to stadiums, and the return even might not take place this season at all.
The construction project of the Santiago Bernabeu is said to be in good progress with a good pace and has an estimated its full completion date by May-June 2022.
The reconstruction project’s idea is to make the stadium more efficient, comfortable, and more sustainable, which will also be providing greater regular income streams to the club.
In 2016, the Madrid Council, which mayor Manuela Carmena leads approved the club’s provisional plans. However, the idea of Perez’s was rejected of integrating a hotel and shopping centre into the facility, to increase the club’s revenues.
The stadium’s capacity will remain unchanged, a retractable roof will be put in place, while the arena is going to become more fan-friendly, along with car parking removed for public space.
