Thibaut Courtois has been ruled out of Real Madrid’s midweek clash against Lille in the Champions League. The Belgian suffered an injury in the Madrid derby against rivals Atletico, which ended 1-1.
The Real Madrid shotstopper was also criticised for provoking the fans behind him, which led to a massive fallout. The players had to be ordered off the field due to the chaotic situation, and Courtois was the target of the Atletico faithful.
Thibaut Courtois ruled out of Champions League tie
🚨🇦🇷🇧🇪 Diego Simeone: “When Courtois was our player, they threw lighters at him in the Bernabeu. You can celebrate the goal, but not by taunting the fans, mocking them, or making gestures. It’s not justified, but neither is what started it.”

“After tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an abductor injury in his left leg. His progress will be monitored,” Real Madrid confirmed on their official website.
While the extent of his absence has not been indicated as of yet, Andriy Lunin will be stepping up against Lille. He played a vital role in helping Los Blancos win the double last season, and will now have to deputise once again.
Los Blancos are dealing with major injuries once again, as Kylian Mbappe has also been ruled out for the coming weeks.
