Real Madrid defeated Girona 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu to secure a five-point advantage at the top of the LaLiga table. Vinicius Jr was the star of the match, being involved in every goal to help his side with a comfortable win. The Brazilian opened the scoring early in the game, producing an outrageous curled finish from outside the box.

He then turned provider as Jude Bellingham exploited the space behind the Girona defenders with a lung bursting run. The ball found the Englishman, and he sidestepped the keeper to double the team’s advantage heading into the tunnel for the break.

The second half didn’t offer any respite for the visitors, as Madrid continued to stay on the offensive. With no natural central defenders in their squad after the injury to Antonio Rudiger, they decided that attack was the best form of defence and implemented it well.

Girona had no shots on target in the game, and barely tested Andriy Lunin in spite of Real’s injury crisis.

Yan Couto had a game to forget as the right-back was completely outdone by Vinicius Jr. He danced past the defence on the flank, and forced a parry from goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, only for Jude Bellingham to pounce on the stray ball and tap in for the third goal of the game.

Couto lost the ball to Vinicius again shortly after, with Rodrygo the man to make it 4-0 in favour of the hosts. Real Madrid had a chance to make it five late in the game, after substitute Arda Guler won a penalty. But, Joselu’s shot from the penalty spot struck the crossbar as the referee blew the whistle for full-time.

LaLiga’s best attack were unable to produce anything against Real Madrid, as the best defence kept a clean sheet even with their natural central defenders out of the squad. The win gives Los Blancos a significant advantage in the title race, while Girona need to stay positive and hope that Madrid drop points elsewhere for them to capitalise on.
