However, surprisingly Neymar signed for French club PSG for a record transfer fee, which is to date the highest transfer fee ever paid for a player. PSG paid the release clause of Neymar in 2017 and signed the Brazilian international for an estimated fee of €220 million from Barcelona.
But, it has now been revealed that the actual cost of Neymar’s transfer is over €500 million. According to El Reforma (via Le10 Sport), the total cost of Neymar’s acquisition and upkeep is over €500 million.

Neymar is paid around €43 million per year as wages. PSG also supports his tax expenses and image rights transfers. Along with this, Neymar’s agents got around €50 million as a bonus for his transfer to PSG from Barcelona. Despite spending so much on a player, PSG fans are reportedly unhappy with the 30-year-old. He has been prone to injuries and has missed numerous matches. He has shown glimpses of his magic but hasn’t been consistent enough during his time at the French capital. His off-the-field activities also get huge criticism.
Daniel Riolo from RMC Sport said to After Foot RMC (via PSGTalk): “Do we realize that Neymar, in terms of recruitment and salary, is the biggest flop in the history of football? I can’t think of a bigger flop for what it cost; it’s horrible.”
