RB Leipzig have defeated Bayern Munich 3-0 in the DFL Supercup, the first competitive match of the season. Dani Olmo scored a hat-trick to help his side win their third-ever trophy, after winning the DFB Pokal for two consecutive seasons.
New signings Harry Kane and Kim Min Jae made their debut for Bayern Munich off the bench. For Leipzig, it was the first outing for Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko, Lois Openda and Fabio Carvalho.
RB Leipzig win DFL Supercup: Harry Kane’s trophy drought continues
After being presented as a new Bayern Munich player ahead of the game on Saturday, Harry Kane made his debut for Die Roten later in the night. The England captain could have won a trophy in his very first game as a Bayern player, but he came on when his side were 2-0 down. And within minutes, Dani Olmo completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot to seal the win in the season opener.
The scoring opened early in the game, with Dani Olmo scoring from a corner. The Spaniard was on target again before half time, receiving the ball from Timo Werner and beating Sven Ulreich after a turn.
RB Leipzig clearly looked the better team throughout the game and had completely outdone Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern in the first game of the new season.
But this doesn’t change the fact that the Bavarians are heading into the season as the favourites to win the Bundesliga again. And now, with Harry Kane in their squad, they have a very good chance of winning the Champions League as well. But, they will face stiff competition from Dortmund and Leipzig on the way to the title.
