Ray tracing and DLSS are included in Nvidia’s new $249 RTX 3050 GPU

The RTX 3050, which starts at $249 and undercuts Nvidia’s previous entry-level RTX graphics card, the $329 RTX 3060, by a whopping $80, was revealed at CES 2022 by Nvidia.

The RTX 3050, like the other RTX GPUs, is based on its Ampere architecture and promises to be the company’s most cheap entry point into ray-traced gameplay at 60 frames per second (although at 1080p) with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. Despite its reduced pricing, the RTX 3050 comes with Nvidia’s third-generation Tensor cores, which enable AI-based DLSS upscaling.

NVIDIA has released a new entry-level GPU… IF YOU CAN FIND ONE:

Nvidia’s VP of global GeForce marketing, Matt Wuebbling, claims that 75% of consumers are still utilising the company’s outdated GTX platform. The addition of a more affordable entry-level alternative like the RTX 3050 is meant to help relieve this by providing a cost-effective way for gamers to upgrade from older cards like the GTX 1650, GTX 1050 Ti, or GTX 1050.

There isn’t an Nvidia-built Founder’s Edition model here, like there isn’t one for the RTX 3060, so you’ll have to buy one from one of Nvidia’s partners. While Nvidia claims that the RTX 3050 will theoretically start at $249, you’ll have to locate a reseller who is willing to sell you one. That is, assuming you can locate one at all, given how tough it is to buy a GPU these days due to rising demand and a continuing semiconductor shortage.

The RTX 3050 will be available on January 27th, but if it’s anything like the RTX 3060, it’ll likely be in great demand when it arrives later this month.
