Raspberry Pi updated with 128 GB eMMC storage by a Pi enthusiast

The DIY world of PC makers is filled with new inventions and discoveries that pop up every day to surprise us. However, there was indeed one question that always plagued most of the tech geniuses in the community.

As we know that a regular Raspberry Pi 4 doesn’t come with any onboard storage, however, we can put a high-capacity microSD card inside it or even boot your Raspberry Pi from a USB SSD. on the other hand a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4, we can get 8, 16 or 32GB of onboard eMMC storage. But the question is what if want more memory?

And the solution for the problem has finally arrived thanks to the Raspberry Pi Fan Ivan Kuleshov who came up with a unique and compelling answer. He suggests the get more onboard storage, he tried to install a 128GB eMMC module onto his Raspberry Pi CM4, and voila he succeeded in his attempt.

“I did it,” Kuleshov tweeted, “Now I have Raspberry Pi CM4 with 128G[B] eMMC Onboard.”

However, the system engineer did not say anything more about the process as to how he managed to achieve more memory on its Raspberry Pi. But he sare some images on Twitter of his process, with the CM4 under a microscope. We cannot find any images of a soldering iron but many have pointed out that it appears that he removed the previous eMMC memory with a heat gun and then soldered on the new one.

Kuleshov also didn’t specify the name and the exact model of the eMMC storage he used. However, sources indicate that Kuleshov most likely used the “THGBMHT0C8LBAIG,” a 128GB model that would fit the bill.
