Ranji Trophy 2023-24: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the schedule for the highly anticipated domestic cricket season 2023-24, which will feature the prestigious Ranji Trophy as its centerpiece. With an action-packed lineup of tournaments and a revamped format, cricket enthusiasts can look forward to an exhilarating season ahead.

Let’s take a look into the highlights, groups, and format of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24

Schedule Overview

  • The Ranji Trophy will commence on January 5, 2024, and conclude on March 14, 2024.
  • The league stage will run until February 19, followed by the knockout matches starting on February 23.
  • The tournament will span over 70 days, showcasing the best of Indian domestic cricket talent.

Exciting Tournaments in the Domestic Season

  • The Duleep Trophy will kickstart the domestic season from June 28 to July 16, 2024, setting the stage for thrilling cricket battles.
  • The Deodhar Trophy will follow, taking place from July 24 to August 4, providing a platform for emerging talents to shine.
  • The Irani Cup, featuring the Ranji champions Saurashtra and the Rest of India, will captivate fans from October 1 to 5, 2024.
  • The Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, India’s premier domestic T20 competition, will be held from October 16 to November 6, 2023.
  • The Vijay Hazare Trophy, a 50-over tournament, will round off the season, running from November 23 to December 15, 2023.

Ranji Trophy Format

  • The Ranji Trophy will feature two divisions: Elite and Plate.
  • The Elite division will consist of four groups of eight teams each, while the Plate division will comprise one group of six teams.
  • Elite teams will play up to 10 multi-day matches, including seven league games, followed by quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final.
  • The top two teams from each Elite group will directly qualify for the quarterfinals.
  • The top four teams from the Plate division will compete in the semifinals.
  • The champions of the Plate Group will be promoted to the Elite Group for the subsequent season, while the bottom two Elite teams will be relegated to the Plate Group.

Ranji Trophy 2023-24 Groupings

  • Elite Group A: Saurashtra, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Haryana, Services, and Manipur.
  • Elite Group B: Bengal, Andhra, Mumbai, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Bihar.
  • Elite Group C: Karnataka, Punjab, Railways, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Gujarat, Tripura, and Chandigarh.
  • Elite Group D: Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Baroda, Delhi, Odisha, Pondicherry, and Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Plate Group: Nagaland, Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh.
