Bayern Munich are in talks with Austria national team manager Ralf Rangnick to become their new head coach from next season. Thomas Tuchel will be leaving the club in June, after the Bundesliga ends, after a little over a year with the Bavarians.
Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen was among the favorites to make the switch, before Unai Emery was linked with the job. But, while Alonso committed to Leverkusen, Emery extended his contract with Aston Villa, ending all speculation with Bayern.

It’s at very concrete, advanced stage as Rangnick remains the favorite candidate for Bayern job. https://t.co/Lwy2Yu2JtB
Before managing Austria, Rangnick was in charge at Manchester United, and had a difficult time getting results with the club. Before that, he was with the Red Bull group and worked as the sporting director and head coach at RB Leipzig.
As a result, negotiations about the project and long-term signings at the club are now taking place between the two parties. For the time being, it seems certain that Ralf Rangnick will be managing Austria at the Euros, and that a move to Bayern, if at all, will happen after the tournament.
Bayern still have several names on their list, and are prepared to move on to others if things don’t work out with Rangnick.
