Raheem Sterling could be extending his stay at Manchester City after Pep Guardiola gave the green light to begin contract talks with the player. The manager will not be involved in the talks, and they will be carried out by the club representatives and agents.
This past summer, the Englishman was one of the stars for England in Euro 2020. But, upon returning to Manchester City, he found himself out of the starting eleven. As a result, he was forced to the bench and was linked with a move away to Barcelona.
Raheem Sterling contract talks to begin soon
While Barcelona were interested in signing the player, they went ahead with the transfer of Ferran Torres instead. And over the season, Raheem Sterling has been reintegrated into the starting lineup once again.
His recent performances have proven his quality once again, and he is back to his best for the Sky Blues. The board is trying to sort out contract talks as soon as possible since his current deal runs out in 2023, and he is seen as one of the club’s most important attackers once again.
This season, Sterling has scored 13 goals across all competitions, and has helped Manchester City rise to the top of the Premier League table. The only club that can realistically catch them is Sterling’s former club Liverpool, who could be three points behind the leaders with a win in their game in hand.
