Rafael Leao has agreed to extend his contract with Milan, after months of negotiations with the board. Reports from The Athletic now suggest that the winger has agreed to renew his contract until 2028 with the Rossoneri.
He is arguably the most valuable player that Milan have in their squad, and there were strong rumours that he would leave this summer, with his current deal running out in 2024. However, it now seems that there has been a breakthrough in negotiations and a renewal is in the works.
Rafael Leao to extend contract with Milan until 2028
This season, the Portugal international has scored twelve goals and provided eight assists in 32 Serie A games. He has also provided one goal and five assists in 10 Champions League games this season, establishing himself as the most prolific contributor for the team.
Ted Dimvula, the player’s lawyer, commented that Leao has always wanted to stay at AC Milan. He denied rumours suggesting an exit and that work was being done to renew his contract. It seems unclear whether or not the €150 million release clause in his contract will be removed.
Rafael Leao’s entourage is in Milan to finalise the agreement and the new contract will be signed very soon. After the formalities have been completed, an official announcement can be expected from the club confirming his new contract.
