Raees 2 has sparked a lot of excitement among fans, but as of May 23, 2026, there’s still no official announcement about the project, including who will direct it, who’ll star, or when production might start.

The original film, which came out in 2017 and was helmed by Rahul Dholakia, featured Shah Rukh Khan as the bootlegger Raees Alam. It definitely made an impact on audiences, but right now, there’s no solid evidence to support the idea of a sequel. It’s crucial to point out that any claims about the budget, release date, or possible [OTT](https://technosports.co.in/this-weekends-ott-drop-is-massive-11-new-movies/) platform for a follow-up are completely [UNCONFIRMED] as of now.

## The Reality Behind the Raees 2 Rumours

When the first film hit theatres on January 25, 2017, it set a high standard for crime dramas. Produced by Excel Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment, it faced tough competition from Hrithik Roshan’s *Kaabil* but still managed to pull in around ₹137 crore net at the domestic box office and about ₹200 crore globally, according to a report from [Times of India Entertainment](https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/rssfeeds/1898055.cms).

Thanks to these impressive figures, fans are always on the lookout for clues about a return to the intense world of Gujarat’s illegal liquor trade.

That said, the reality is that Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t confirmed any plans for a project called *Raees 2*. From what we’ve seen in the industry, high-profile sequels often get stuck in development hell or are merely trends that fans generate on social media without any backing from studios.

Until we hear any official word from Ritesh Sidhwani or Farhan Akhtar, this film is more a fantasy than a reality.

## What We Know About the Franchise Legacy

The film thrived on a mix of star power and a gripping narrative that truly resonated with audiences across India. (Source: [VentureBeat AI](https://venturebeat.com/category/ai))

While fans are eager for more stories in this universe, we haven’t seen any movement towards a sequel.

The industry has changed quite a bit since 2017, with a stronger emphasis on building franchises and prioritizing streaming content. If a sequel were on the table, it would need a total refresh of the original creative team and production companies involved.

Until we get an official press release or confirmation from the key players, we recommend treating any news about the film’s return with a healthy dose of skepticism. The wait for a solid update continues.
