## ***R Ashwin Retirement: 5 Unbreakable Records of India’s Legendary Spinner***

### **1. Second Fastest to 500 Test Wickets**

Ashwin’s prowess in Test cricket is legendary, and his 500 wicket milestone is a testament to his consistency and skill. He achieved this feat in just **98 matches**, making him the second fastest bowler in the world to do so, trailing only Muttiah Muralitharan.

Ashwin also holds the distinction of being the **fastest bowler to 250, 300, and 350 Test wickets**, a feat that reflects his dominance over the years. Given the physical and mental demands of Test cricket today, it’s hard to imagine anyone breaking these records anytime soon.

### **2. Most Left Handers Dismissed in Test Cricket**

If you’re a left handed batter, Ashwin was your ultimate nightmare. Over the course of his career, he dismissed an astounding **268 left handers** in Test cricket, a record that stands untouched.

Some of his most famous victims include Ben Stokes (12 dismissals), David Warner (11), and Alastair Cook (9). His ability to outfox left handed batters consistently earned him the reputation of being the go to bowler against southpaws.

### **3. 37 Five Wicket Hauls in Tests**

Ashwin’s knack for delivering match winning spells made him a priceless asset for India, especially in Test cricket. He claimed **37 five wicket hauls**, a record that places him second in the all time list alongside Shane Warne, only behind Muttiah Muralitharan (67).

The sheer frequency of his five wicket hauls is staggering, and this record underscores his ability to dismantle batting line ups single handedly. For an Indian bowler, this is the highest tally ever.

### **4. 226 Bowled and LBW Wickets in Tests**

One of Ashwin’s most unique records is the staggering **226 dismissals via bowled or LBW** in Test cricket. This showcases his accuracy and ability to target the stumps relentlessly, a hallmark of his bowling strategy.

Across all formats, Ashwin has **302 bowled or LBW dismissals**, making him one of only three bowlers in history to breach the 300 mark, alongside Muttiah Muralitharan (336) and James Anderson (320). This level of precision is rare in cricket and nearly impossible to replicate.

### **5. Four Instances of a Century and Five-Wicket Haul in a Test Match**

Ashwin’s contribution to cricket wasn’t limited to bowling, he was a true all rounder. In Test cricket, he achieved the rare feat of scoring a century and taking a five-wicket haul in the same match **four times**, more than any other Indian.

Globally, only Ian Botham has managed this feat more often, with five instances. Ashwin’s ability to dominate both with the bat and ball made him a unique player, and this record further cements his legacy.

## **Honorable Mentions: A Career Packed with Milestones**

- **Most Player of the Series Awards in Tests**: Ashwin holds the record for the **most Player of the Series awards in Test cricket history** with 11.
- **475 Test Wickets at Home**: Ashwin’s dominance at home made India an impregnable fortress, as he claimed **475 Test wickets on Indian soil**, just one short of Anil Kumble’s record.
