Donny Van De Beek didn’t feature against Chelsea at Old Trafford yesterday. Manchester United secured a 0-0 draw against the London side. It was quite astonishing to see Donny Van De Beek didn’t come up from the bench to break the deadlock.
Donny Van De Beek is yet to start a game in Premier League for Manchester United, though he scored in his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace after coming off the bench. His performance after coming off the bench was so good that some even suggested that he should start a game.
But yesterday he didn’t feature as a substitute even. Manchester United Legend Patrice Evra was not pleased with the decision of the United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He said, “Why did we buy Van de Beek? I have nothing against him. He’s watching the game from the stands. We don’t need him. Nobody will say it but that’s the truth.”
Both the teams yesterday were not at their very best. They failed to produce something extraordinary in the final third. Chelsea was keeping much of the possession but Manchester United tried to take the advantages in quick counter-attacks and breaks. But Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was excellent yesterday to deny Manchester United to find the back of the net.
Edinson Cavani made his Manchester United debut in the second half. He looked in a scoring mood yesterday. One of his goal-scoring chance was blocked by his old PSG teammate Thiago Silva.
Manchester United is going to face RB Leipzig in UCL in mid-week. United fans want to see Donny Van De Beek in the starting line-up against the German side or else questions will be raised again on why did they buy Van de Beek if they don’t need him?
