Breathing New Life into ‘Peetal Nagri’

Moradabad, fondly known as ‘Peetal Nagri’ or Brass City, is home to one of India’s oldest brassware clusters. But for all its rich history, the local artisans have been grappling with challenges such as unsafe work environments, low wages, and inadequate power supplies. These issues have stunted the industry’s growth potential and competitiveness.

Recognizing these struggles, the UP Government, under its Smart City Project, championed the expansion of the MHSC. The goal? To equip these skilled artisans with safer, more efficient high-tech solutions that can transform their working conditions.

A State-of-the-Art Upgrade

The newly constructed 5-floor RCC front structure spans a massive 60,000 square feet within the MHSC premises. It boasts state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure, including the latest electrical retrofitting, HVAC installation, sanitation facilities, and tastefully designed interiors.

Qubik has shown commendable commitment to quality and national development by completing this extensive project within a tight timeline of just 24 months.

A Commitment to Excellence

Qubik’s CEO, Mr. Nikhil Jain, expressed his pride in the project’s completion, stating, “This transformative project testifies to Qubik’s dedication to national development and economic growth. The MHSC project not only enhances Moradabad’s infrastructure but also creates job opportunities and acknowledges the invaluable contributions of our local artisans to our culture and economy. Qubik looks forward to playing a continued, pivotal role in India’s infrastructure development, consistently delivering excellence in project execution.”

A Boost for the Metal Handicraft Sector

The Metal Handicraft Service Centre, established in 1983-84 with support from the Government of India, UNDP, and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, has been instrumental in serving the metal handicraft industry.

With the addition of new facilities including a Common Facility Centre, Research Testing and Calibration Laboratory (NABL accredited), and Training Facilities, the MHSC is poised to elevate the skills of craftspeople and technicians. This move is set to play a crucial role in propelling the growth of the metal handicraft sector.

Through this initiative, Qubik and the UP government are not just building a building; they are building a brighter future for Moradabad’s artisans and the Indian metal handicraft industry.
