Qualcomm Technologies unveiled the first satellite-based two-way messaging solution for high-end smartphones, Snapdragon Satellite, at CES 2023. Beginning with devices based on the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, Snapdragon Satellite will use mobile messaging to connect people all over the world.

OEMs and other service providers will be able to give genuinely global coverage thanks to the new technology, which will be supported by the fully operational Iridium® satellite constellation and powered by Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF Systems. The smartphone solution uses Iridium’s weather-resistant L-band bandwidth for both uplink and downlink.

Satellite-based connectivity for next-generation premium Android phones will be provided by Qualcomm and Iridium, while Garmin will offer emergency communications.

In remote, rural, and offshore locations, Snapdragon® Satellite can enable two-way emergency messaging, SMS texting, and other messaging applications. Snapdragon® Satellite gives complete worldwide coverage from pole to pole.

Snapdragon Satellite will support 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks once NTN satellite constellations and infrastructure become accessible (NTN).
With this technology, smartphones and other non-smartphone gadgets can communicate through satellite in an emergency.

The following generation of smartphones, which will debut in select regions in the second half of 2023, will provide emergency message sending and receiving via Snapdragon Satellite.
