At IFA, Qualcomm debuts new Snapdragon X Plus series chipsets for $700-$900 Copilot+ PCs Leading brands such as Acer, ASUS, Dell Technologies, HP, and Lenovo have planned a range of designs with this series. Qualcomm Technologies announced the new Snapdragon X Plus Series chipset that allows much more capabilities on low-end and entry-level devices.
The Upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus
There are two octa-core chips in the Snapdragon X Plus family; the X1P-46-100 and the X1P-42-100. The two models come with eight Oryon CPU cores. With a top operating frequency of 4GHz for the X1P-46-100, and the X1P-42-100 reaches up to 3.4GHz. Both are built on a 4nm manufacturing process and come with Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU capable of doing up to AI processing at speeds of 45 TOPS.
The Snapdragon X Plus series also boasts an integrated Qualcomm Adreno GPU which is more than capable of handling the mobile graphic experience, unlike some individuals might have heard about it. The X1P-46-100 includes an Adreno GPU for 2.1 TFLOPS of performance, while the X1P-42-100 opts for a slightly weaker Adreno chip rated at 1.7 TFLOPs instead. This doesn’t come as a surprise however, these GPUs are designed to handle light graphic workloads and are nowhere near the power of Qualcomm’s high-end processors.
The chipsets can also drive up to three external UHD displays at 60Hz. They are also capable of taking 36MP stills while recording HDR video up to 4K. In terms of memory and storage, both CPUs feature up to 64 GB DDR5x RAM clocked @ stock speeds running at a frequency of 8448 MT/s which is more than what some low-end desktop-grade DIMMs operate. Storage options include UFS4.0 & NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD support too.
Connectivity features include Bluetooth v5.4 and Wi-Fi 7, ensuring fast and reliable data transfers. Security is bolstered by a Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit, which supports Microsoft Pluton TPM, full memory encryption, and Microsoft Secured-core PC functionalities. This comprehensive feature set positions the Snapdragon X Plus series as a strong contender in the mid-range PC market.
