Galaxy Book4 Edge with Snapdragon X Elite surpasses MacBook M3 Pro in Geekbench

Qualcomm has officially revealed all of the specifications and benchmarks for its future Snapdragon X Elite CPU for next Windows PCs, which will compete with Apple, Intel, and AMD. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite CPU is aimed solely at the Windows PC market, where it will compete against Intel and AMD, as well as Apple’s laptop lineup based on their Arm chip architectures.

Qualcomm has developed a new core called Oryon for the X Elite, which is based on the TSMC 4nm node and has a total of 12 cores that can operate at up to 4.3 GHz (1-core and 2-core) or 3.8 GHz (All-Core) boost frequencies. These cores are organized in four clusters, with three clusters used for the X Elite processors, totaling 42 MB cache.

The GPU is a Qualcomm Adreno chip with up to 4.6 TFLOPs of performance, and there is also a Qualcomm Hexagon AI accelerator with 75 TOPs of performance as a Micro nPU. Other features include up to 64 GB of LPDDR5x-8533 memory compatibility, PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe SSD support, and the utilization of the latest Snapdragon X65 5G modem with WIFI7 and BT 5.4 provided by the FastConnect 7800 controller.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite achieves a single core score of 3227, which is 14% higher than the Apple M2 Max (2841 points) while using 30% less power. The Snapdragon X Elite CPU is also faster than the Intel Core i9-13980HX, outperforming it by 1% (3192 points) but consuming 70% less power.

In the multi-threaded benchmarks, Qualcomm compares the Snapdragon X Elite CPUs with 12 Oryon cores to Intel’s 13th Gen 12 and 10 core CPU offerings. The CPU is expected to give up to twice the multi-threaded performance in Geekbench 6 at the same power and match the competition’s peak performance while consuming 68% less power.

When compared to the 14-core Intel Core i7-13800H CPU, the CPU performs similarly. The X Elite 12-core delivers 60% quicker performance at the same power level as the competition while consuming 65% less power. The Snapdragon X Elite is also reported to give 50% greater multi-threaded performance than the M2, despite the fact that this is the Non-Max chip being discussed in the specific test.

Finally, Qualcomm compares integrated GPU performance to Intel’s Core i7-13800H and AMD’s Ryzen 9 7940HS. Because the 13th Generation CPUs have lesser integrated graphics, the performance boost at the same power level is fairly large, with a 2x gain, while peak performance of the Intel chip is offered while consuming 74% less power. In comparison to the more powerful AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS with RDNA 3 architecture, the CPU is 80% faster at the same performance and consumes 80% less power while maintaining peak performance.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite CPUs with Oryon cores are expected to be released in the middle of 2024.
