Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+

Qualcomm seems to be again working on a slightly upgraded version of the originally released Snapdragon 888. This is a very nominal increase in clock speeds as this is a ‘+’ variant of the 5nm based SoC and as expected, Qualcomm has increased the clock speed of the Prime core by a few MHz.

While in the original Snapdragon 888, the CPU configuration is: 4 cores clocked at 1.80 GHz, while 3 cores clocked at 2.42 GHz, and the prime core clocked at 2.84 GHz. Now, as per the leaked Geekbench listing of the Snapdragon 888+, the clock speed of this Prime core is set at 3.00GHz, an increase by 160MHz.

So, this will result in a nominal performance jump over its predecessor, helping to score 1171 points in single-core and 3704 points in multi-core tests. Well, do note this could be a reference device and not one with fancy cooling, so expect the scores to improve over time.

If you compare the score with the OnePlus 9 Pro using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, there’s a nominal 8% performance jump in multi-core and typically no improvement in single-core. Now, if you compare the scores with Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 with Snapdragon 888, there’s a slight 3.5% increase in single-core and 1.6% better in multi-core.

So, with proper cooling on a better smartphone, you can expect these scores to get higher; maybe the single-core could hit 1200 points and somehow 4000 points mark in multi-core. Whereas, an Apple A12 Bionic is still the leader, with iPhone 12 Pro Max scoring 1606 points in single-core and 4249 points in multi-core tests.
