Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 specs leaked, but cannot defeat Apple’s A13 Bionic

Chip giant Qualcomm’s next major SoC is coming in a few weeks, which was previously thought to be launched in November. But now, it’s pretty clear that Qualcomm will be launching the Snapdragon 865 at its annual Tech Summit scheduled for early December.

Considering the fact that we are a few weeks away from the launch, leaks were expected to be flooding, even though some info has been leaked via a Chinese forum Weibo user Digital Chat Station. According to this guy the Snapdragon 865 is apparently sticking to the 8-core formula but with decent upgrades in the cores.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 865

Expected to be formulated on TSMC’s 7nm+ technology, this new SoC packs a high-performance Kryo Gold Cortex-A77 core clocked at 2.84 GHz along with 3 slightly underclocked A77 cores running at 2.42 GHz. To balance the high-performance cores there are 4 Kryo Silver cores with 1.8 GHz clock speeds.

Leaks further state that this new 8 core cluster should provide 20% increased performance than the previous Snapdragon 855 model. Also, the Snapdragon 865 SoC is equipped with an improved Adreno 650 GPU clocked at 587 MHz, providing 17-20% better graphical performance than the previous Adreno 640 GPU.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 865

Even though the specs seem impressive but cannot guarantee a victory over Apple’s stronger A13 Bionic SoC which is almost up to 50% faster than the predecessor Snapdragon 855 Plus.

Still, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 will be the flagship chipset for 2020, built on an improved 7nm+ node, bringing decent improvements over last-gen and implementing much-required features like 5G modem and LPDDR5 RAM support.
